April '08 Yes we can !?
No I have not lost interest, or had a writer's block or been locked away in rehab. [I did consider the latter but both Amy and Lindsey ignored my request to become their roommate.] I have just been plodding along with my usual cavalier work ethic, which I consider one of the prime benefits of retirement. Fact was I had what might have been one of the most cluttered hard drives in existence. My condescending attitude toward those I describe as compulsive neat freaks has come full circle and exacted its pound of flesh for my haughtiness. [My what a lovely metaphorical mixture.] Anyway my cyber kingdom is now passably orderly, and the seeds of revolt are doubtless gathering forces against my vow to keep it that way.
Elsewhere in my opus I have explained my retirement from political participation in our brave new world of freedom and democracy, and while I think our current surge of citizen participation in our governance has come far too late to have much effect on our descent into thirdworldiness, I will allow myself brief observations of our current crop of presidential wantabees.
Dick, in his role as champion head-in-the-sander vows to increase our military might by maxing out our credit with China to rebuild a force that is functionally obsolete in today's borderless world oblivious to the fact that China will eventually cut us off as a bad credit risk and maybe even foreclose to protect their equity.
Hillary seems to me to make the most nonsensical qualification claim. Senior experience in knowing the procedures used in the nonfunctioning morass of the failed system of government we have now seems to me to be more of a liability than an asset.
I like Obama best, but while it is true that "yes we can" is possible, he could never get elected if the voters realize how painfully hard we can would be. His rhetoric is sort of a mirror image of the little boy who exclaimed "the Emperor ain't got no clothes on"---- the flack he got from daring to say that most small town folks are bitter and clinging to minor issues like toting guns and closing off the borders is not only demonstrably true, but a similar preoccupation with trivialities has taken hold of the whole damn electoral process. OMG, I have been at this for over an hour- time for a break. Besides, today is 420, and you know what that means, the day when bells go bong bong rather than ding dong.
