Good morning, friends and neighbors out there in radio land, we want to welcome you to another broadcasting day here on radio station K*NT ---- songs of blessings and uplifting words to help gird your loins to face another day in this world of wickedness and shame.  But no matter how the dark forces rail against you, no matter how the winds of doubt swirl around you, you can know that you are safe; shielded from the evils of this world by the wonderful power of our Saviors' * love.  No matter how steep the climb or how lonely the journey, know that you do not walk alone.  While others search in vain for truth and guidance in their so called sacred books, such as the Bible, the Koran and the Republican National Platform,  we alone are blessed to have the One Sacred Tome that can assure us safe passage through these tumultuous times.

* Persnickety critics should note the atypical, but correct, placement of the apostrophe for this particular arrangement of letters.

We invite all our listeners to read along with us as we ready ourselves to go forth and spread the good news. Turn with me now to Chapter 1, Taking the Long Way,   Verses 4c-5.
But I've always found my way somehow
By taking the long way
Taking the long way around
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around

Now our redneck detractors use these words to support their contemptible  claim that the Dixie Chicks are simply rebellious spirits who not only betrayed their loyal country fans by desecrating our beloved country on foreign soil, but obstinately refuse to ask forgiveness, and with contrite demeanor plead to be let back into the fold.  But those who rush to judgement cannot see the profound truth behind these words-- that we as a people have strayed so far from the path of freedom that our forefathers set us on that there is no way back to the country we were meant to be but the long way. Over the decades we have become so wrapped up in our swollen pride, our pseudo patriotic rituals, that we have come to believe that if we say the Pledge of Allegiance, wave our flag a time or two, sing God Bless America, and vote we have fulfilled our duty as citizens.   We elect republicans  and democrats, but we have long since failed to supervise them.  When in hell did the term "government by the people" become meaningless?  Every single one of you out there in radio land needs to understand that we have been sitting on our fat asses so long it doesn't make a tinker's damn whether we put most of our weight on the left cheek or the right cheek.   America is not our god!  We are not supposed to worship it, to hold it sacrosanct, goddammit we are responsible for it.  Our country is not our parents, it is our child!   The Dixie  Chicks have made the right choice, it is a long way around
and we might not make it. See  Chapter 12, BABY  HOLD  ON, Verse 10
We might never live those days gone by
But we can try

And there is one thing I want every man and woman, every boy and girl that these radio waves carry my words to know is that we can't try until we can see clearly what we were like in those days gone by.  We have forgotten, our lives have become such a jangled conglomeration of sound bites, simple slogans,  pre- digested facts, and easy answers that we can't really see what kind of nation we have become, we just read our lines in a play that someone else wrote, and the truth is treated like a traitor. Well Brother Jimmy, you may ask, how can this veil obscuring our view of  the path be lifted?  Well my oppressed listeners, the answers are right here in our Most Sacred Scripture.  Right now, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, lift our Most Precious Roundelay over your heads,  wave it slowly about in a reverential manner, and be prepared to walk the holy path.

First, you have to find a quiet place where you can hear yourself
Chapter 2, Easy Silence, Verses 2c.d.3a
And everyone is running
And I come to find a refuge in the
Easy silence that you make for me

Then you have to understand that your patriotic pretensions are not really fooling anyone
Chapter 4, Everybody Knows, Verse 2
Stepping out, everyone can see my face
All the things I can't erase from my life
Everybody knows

And once you see the truth then you will begin to understand the wrath of our Righteous Trinity
Chapter 3, Not Ready to Make Nice, Verse 3
I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

Well Brother Jimmy who is it that we are supposed to get mad at?  George Bush?  Hilary Clinton? The people on the left? The people on the right? The greedy corporations?  Illegal aliens?  Billy Graham?  Just who?  Yes, I say.  get mad as hell at all of them. but mostly get mad at the person between the ears that are hearing this message.  Because I say to you, we have exactly the kind of government that we deserve.  and nothing will change until you too can say
Chapter 3, Not Ready to Make Nice, Verse 2

I'm through, with doubt,
There's nothing left for me to figure out,
I've paid a price, and I'll keep paying

And you need to understand this, my radio listeners, there is a price for what we have become, and we will pay, every single one of us.   We can either make a decision to pay our own way and reach in our pockets for whatever it takes to heal our nation, or we can continue to wander aimlessly in our fantasy land until the collector comes.
He may come in the form of a worldwide economic collapse, or some never before seen natural calamity.  He may come suddenly, or he may come as a slow crumbling decay... but he will come, and we will pay.

I don't want us to wait.  It may be too late already but we can try.   Friends and neighbors, won't you, right this moment, get up off your couch, or pull your car over to the side of the road---- just stop what you are doing, walk over and put your hand on the radio, and vow with me "Yes, I will try."  And if you will do that then sing quietly with me---

Chapter 14, Hope, Verse 3

I hope, for more love, more joy and laughter
I hope, we'll have more than we'll ever need
I hope, we'll have more happy ever after
I hope, we can all live more fearlessly
And we can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope

 Amen.  And Amen.
